Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 PM EDT Sat Sep 10 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 11 2016 - 00Z Tue Sep 13 2016 ...Flash flooding and severe weather to impact the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes region on Saturday... A strong front moving from the Great Lakes into the southern Plains will be the focus for convection over the next few days. Southerly flow will transport moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and will help fire off showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the boundary. The heaviest rainfall will concentrate along the Lower Great Lakes where there is a risk of flash flooding associated with it. Some of these storms also have the potential to be severe; the risk of severe weather will also be in this region but also extends into the Ohio Valley. Farther south, the western Gulf Coast will also have scattered thunderstorms across the region throughout Saturday as the front continues to sag southward across south Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley. By Sunday, the front pushes across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and stalls across the western Gulf Coast. Showers and thunderstorms will quickly move off the Northeast/New England coastline as the front also quickly progresses offshore. The Texas and Louisiana coastline will continue to get showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday as the stalled front will once again act as a focal point to set off convection. The front also stalls across the Carolinas and Southeast on Monday--which will also bring those regions thunderstorms. An easterly wave will bring showers and thunderstorms across southern and western Florida--with most of the heavier rainfall concentrating in southwest Florida on Sunday. By Monday, another easterly wave will approach the east coast of Florida and the Carolinas--bringing more unsettled weather to their coastlines. Elsewhere, monsoonal moisture will be introduced back into the Southwest and central/southern Rockies by Sunday. Expect late afternoon/evening scattered thunderstorms. Another strong cold front will move across the Great Basin and into the Plains by Sunday. Behind this front, dry and much cooler air will follow--bringing a taste of autumn.
