Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 PM EDT Sun Sep 11 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Sep 12 2016 - 00Z Wed Sep 14 2016 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected to linger along the Gulf coast and across the Southeast... ...Heavy rainfall possible along a frontal boundary dropping through the Upper Midwest and Central Plains... ...Temperatures expected to be well below normal next few days across the western U.S.... A lingering stationary front across the Southeast states keeps showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through Monday, before slowly weakening on Tuesday. By Tuesday, a couple of weak disturbances keeps keeps showers and storms, with locally heavy rainfall possible, along the Gulf Coast and Florida, as well as the South and North Carolina coastlines. A frontal boundary in the Northern Tier will push southward across the Plains and upper Mississippi Valley the next couple of days. With plenty of moisture streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico, showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rainfall, remains a threat along the entire boundary. Heavy rainfall, capable of localized flash flooding, may be possible Monday night into Tuesday across the central Plains into the middle Mississippi Valley as this boundary interacts with energy moving through in the flow aloft. Strong surface high pressure moves in behind the front bringing well below normal temperatures across much of the Western states. Afternoon temperature readings could be as much as 10 to 25 degrees below normal, especially from the northern Intermountain west on Monday, and into the central High Plains/Plains on Tuesday. Wintry precipitation may also be in the forecast on Monday and Tuesday in the higher terrain of the Northern Rockies. Elsewhere, monsoonal moisture continues to impact the Four Corners region keeping mainly diurnally driven showers and storms in the forecast through the short range period.
