Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 PM EDT Tue Sep 13 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Sep 14 2016 - 00Z Fri Sep 16 2016 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the southern and central Plains... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Southeast Coast... ...Temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees below average from the Northern/Central Plains to the Northern High Plains... High pressure over much of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest will keep a cooler airmass in place over the next few days. Many locations across the northern tier and portions of the central Plains will have afternoon temperature readings averaging 10 to 15 degrees cooler than those typical for mid-September. Scattered showers will be possible across the northern Great Basin, Rockies and Four Corner region along a nearly stationary boundary - with a mix of rain and snow, or all snow, in favored areas of high terrain. A disturbance passing through the West will spin-up a low pressure system as it cross the Front Range late Wednesday afternoon/evening. Areal coverage of showers and thunderstorms will increase across the central Plains and Midwest as the cold front pushes eastward into the Dakotas and Nebraska and north of the warm front lifting though Kansas and Arkansas. Heavy rainfall may arise over across portions of the southern High Plains, central Plains and Midwest/Upper Midwest through Friday. Widespread rainfall is expected across the Southeast. Tropical moisture, upper-level energy and a nearly-stationary surface low over Florida will continuously trigger showers and thunderstorms over portions of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Heavy rainfall will likely occur and increase the threat for flash flooding. The coastal areas are forecast to receive the highest amounts, with 3-day totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches. Isolated amounts of 5 to 7, possibly higher, may occur as well. Similarly, moisture over the Gulf Coast States and upper-level impulses will produce showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Coast States through Wednesday.
