Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 PM EDT Sat Sep 17 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 18 2016 - 00Z Tue Sep 20 2016 ...Heavy rainfall to impact in the Northeast on Sunday and into Monday with the frontal passage... ...Warmer temperatures will settle in across the eastern U.S. for the next few days... A cold front moving across the eastern U.S. is expected to move across the Northeast through the southern Plains into Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will set off along and ahead of the front; precipitation can expect to enter the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic by Sunday morning while convective activity will linger along the Tennessee Valley at that time. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms will lift north across Texas into southern Oklahoma from late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon, convection will increase across the Southeast and lower Mississippi Valley ahead of that front. With the slow moving nature of the cold front, some of the rainfall activity could produce heavy rain--which in turn could produce flash flooding. By Monday afternoon, most of the showers and thunderstorms be confined to the immediate East Coast. Howevery, Florida can expect typical scattered to numerous storms from typical sea breeze activity. Elsewhere, the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West can expect light to moderate rain through Sunday as a disturbance moves over the region. This activity will ramp up once again by Monday as another disturbance approaches the region. Warmer temperatures across the Plains and East Coast can be expected both Sunday and Monday.
