Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 AM EDT Fri Sep 30 2016 Valid 12Z Fri Sep 30 2016 - 12Z Sun Oct 02 2016 ...Heavy rain threat continues through Saturday from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast... ...Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the Southwest and Rockies... Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue over much of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and the Ohio valley through the weekend. A large upper-level low will spin over the Ohio Valley, which will keep a surface front extending southward along the Eastern seaboard. As the weekend progresses, a portions of the front will occluded over the central Appalachian and into the lower Great Lakes/Ohio valley. This area will likely have the higher rainfall amounts as deep Atlantic moisture wraps northwestward into the system. The threat for flash flooding will persist through Sunday morning Showers and thunderstorms will be possible this weekend as well from the desert southwest/southern Rockies northward to the northern Rockies and High Plains. A slow moving cold front pushing through the Intermountain West will be a focus for precipitations. Snow may develop over the favored terrain of the Rockies. Rain also gets into the Pacific Northwest by Saturday as the upper level system approaches the region.
