Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 340 PM EDT Fri Sep 30 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Oct 01 2016 - 00Z Mon Oct 03 2016 ...Widespread showers and thunderstorms continues across the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast this weekend... ...Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a frontal boundary across the Intermountain West and the Rockies... A large upper level system across the Eastern U.S. keeps showers and thunderstorms in the forecast from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast this weekend. The most organized of the rainfall should set up along the occluded front from the Great Lakes to the northern Mid-Atlantic on Saturday, lifting northward into the Northeast/New England by Sunday. The cold front is forecast to linger near the coast the next couple of days which may allow for heavier rainfall totals across the Outer Banks and coastal New England as well. Given heavy rainfall in these areas already the past several days, localized flash flooding remains a threat. A cold front pushing slowly across the northern Intermountain West today will continue to allow for showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Mountain West and into the Four Corners region this weekend. Heavier rainfall may be possible across the favored terrain of the northern Rockies and High Plains by Sunday as the front moves into the region. Farther west, rain will be on the increase across the Pacific Northwest as the upper level system approaches the West coast. Heavy rainfall is possible along the coastal ranges of northern California and southwest Oregon Saturday evening into Sunday.
