Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Sat Oct 08 2016 Valid 12Z Sat Oct 08 2016 - 12Z Mon Oct 10 2016 ...Hurricane Matthew continues its northward path along the Southeast Coast.... ...Heavy rain possible for parts of the Southeast/Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast... ...Heavy rain possible for parts of the Pacific Northwest... Hurricane Matthew will move northward along the Southeast/Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast with a forecast weakening trend on Sunday. The storm will produce showers and thunderstorms along the Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast and the Southeast Coast through Monday. Rainfall associated with Matthew may be heavy at times. A front extending from the Lower Great Lakes roughly southwestward to the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Western Gulf Coast will move eastward to off the East Coast by Sunday evening. The southern portion of the boundary will dissipate late Saturday night into Sunday. Moisture will pool along the front producing rain from the Lower Great Lakes into the Central Appalachians that will move off the Northeast Coast by Sunday morning into evening. Meanwhile, moisture flowing off the Western Gulf of Mexico will move into parts of the Southern Rockies/Southwest. Upper-level energy moving northeastward out of Northwestern Mexico will move to Central High Plains by Sunday evening. The energy and moisture will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern Rockies and parts of the Southwest on Saturday morning that will expand into the Southern/Central High Plains by Sunday evening.
