Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 233 PM EDT Sun Oct 16 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Oct 17 2016 - 00Z Wed Oct 19 2016 ...Heavy rain expected to continue for portions of the Pacific Northwest and northern California... ...Temperatures are expected to be well above average through Tuesday across much of the central and eastern U.S... Heavy rain is expected to continue along the west coast from northern California to Washington into Tuesday. Precipitation is expected to be heaviest today and gradually become lighter and more scattered Monday and Tuesday. The higher elevations of the Sierras in central California and coastal northern California could see a few inches of rain today. Further inland, lowering snow levels will allow heavy snow to begin accumulating over the higher terrain of the northern Rockies. East of the Rockies, above normal temperatures will take hold. High pressure centered over the eastern U.S. will allow southerly flow to direct a warm air mass northward across the central U.S. The pattern will slowly shift eastward allowing the warm weather to overtake the eastern U.S. by Tuesday.
