Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Sat Oct 22 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Oct 23 2016 - 00Z Tue Oct 25 2016 ...A strong cold front brought Fall temperatures to the eastern states... ...Strong low pressure system over the Northeast U.S. this weekend... Much cooler air has surged into the central and eastern states in the wake a strong frontal passage last evening through this morning. Precipitation has been widespread all afternoon over much of the Northeast. With enough cold air on the back side of this storm, accumulating snow across the higher elevations of northern New York to Maine will be possible. Surface high pressure sliding southeast out of southern Canada this weekend will help push another cold front through the northern/central Plains, Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. Scattered showers are forecast along the northern portion of the front, favoring the Upper Mississippi valley - especially across southern Minnesota where 3-day accumulations up to 1 inch will be possible. Onshore flow with an approaching frontal system is bringing rain showers to Pacific Northwest coast. This front is expected to weaken as it pushes inland on Sunday. However, a more robust system is forecast to develop over the Gulf of Alaska and track toward the Pacific Northwest Sunday-Monday. The central low pressure with this second system will deepen rapidly Sunday evening and through the day on Monday. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
