With a dry start to the work week across much of the central and eastern U.S., a developing surface low emerging from the central Plains will track eastward towards the Ohio Valley by Thursday morning. An expanding area of rainfall on the north side of this low is expected from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Some mixed precipitation is possible across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and also for interior portions of the Northeast at the start of the event before changing to rain. Across the western U.S., multiple Pacific storm systems near the coast will keep the weather unsettled from central California and points northward. The heaviest rainfall is likely for the coastal mountain ranges of northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Snow is likely for the highest mountains. Additional mountain snow is expected for parts of the central and northern Rockies. In terms of temperatures, it will continue feeling like fall across the northern and eastern U.S. after the passage of a cold front on Monday. Cold conditions are expected for New England with scattered snow showers for the mountains, and highs only in the 40s.
