Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 AM EDT Fri Oct 28 2016 Valid 12Z Fri Oct 28 2016 - 12Z Sun Oct 30 2016 ...Heavy rain to impact the West coast for the next few days... ...Snow expected across interior New England and Upstate New York... Widespread rain is forecast for much of the Pacific Northwest this weekend as a large upper-level low approaches from the Pacific Ocean. A series of fronts will move inland while interacting with the tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Seymour as its drawn northward. Precipitation will spread east through the Great Basin and Intermountain West, with snow in the higher elevations of the Cascades, Sierra Nevadas, Sawtooths, Beartooths, Tetons, Wasatchs, Big Horns and Central Rockies. With higher than normal moisture content expected this weekend, periods of heavy rainfall may be possible across portions of central and southern California today, and portions of northeast California Saturday and Sunday. Excessive rainfall may increase the risk for flash flooding in these areas. Areas across New England will have rain, with snow or mix of rain and snow across upstate New York and Maine, as a low pressure system moves offshore this afternoon. Precipitation is expected to taper off during the evening hours. Another low pressure system will cross the the northern-tier states today then spill cooler air into the central and southern Plains as surface high pressure builds in behind the front. Rain showers and a few thunderstorms are forecast of portions of the Upper Mississippi valley and Great Lakes region today before spreading east across the Midwest, Ohio valley and the Northeast. Mostly dry conditions with warmer than seasonal average temperatures is forecast for much of the central and portions of the eastern U.S. this weekend.
