Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 411 PM EDT Sat Oct 29 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Oct 30 2016 - 00Z Tue Nov 01 2016 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of Northern California and Washington State Cascades... ...Snow possible for parts of the Sierras and Northern Rockies... ...Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees above average from the Southern Plains to the Southern Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and Southern Appalachians... A front extending from the Northeast to the Middle Mississippi Valley then into the Southern Plains will move eastward off the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Coast and southward to the Carolinas and the Tennessee Valley by Monday. Rain with a few embedded thunderstorms will develop along and near the boundary from the Great Lakes to the Northeast that will move eastward off the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Coast by late Sunday night. A wave of low pressure over the Middle Mississippi Valley will move eastward off the Mid-Atlantic Coast by Monday morning. Rain will develop with the low over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley moving eastward to Northeast/Mid-Atlantic by late Sunday night and off the coast by Monday morning. In the systems wake, light rain will develop over part of the interior Northeast on Monday. Meanwhile, a deep upper-level low off the West Coast will weaken while moving inland to the Northern Rockies/Northern High Plains by Monday. As the system begins to move inland, rain will develop over parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern California that will wane over parts of the Northwest by Sunday morning. On Sunday, the upper-low's energy moves inland as the rain expands into Southern California and the Great Basin by Sunday afternoon and returning to the Pacific Northwest by Sunday evening. Overnight Sunday, the rain will expand into the Northern/Central Rockies and into the Northern Plains, while waning over Southern California and parts of the Great Basin by Monday. On Sunday morning, the snow levels will drop over the highest elevations of the Sierras producing snow at those elevations into Monday. In addition, the snow levels will likewise lower over parts of the Northern Rockies allowing snow to develop over the highest elevations on Sunday night into Monday. Elsewhere, onshore flow off the Atlantic will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the southeastern portions of Florida through Monday morning.
