Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 AM EDT Tue Nov 01 2016 Valid 12Z Tue Nov 01 2016 - 12Z Thu Nov 03 2016 ...Rain and higher elevation snows possible across much of the Northwest U.S.... ...Heavy rainfall possible on Wednesday from the central Plains to the Great Lakes... ...Well above normal temperatures expected for much of the Central to Eastern states... Weak upper level energy crossing the Northwest states will keep rain and higher elevation snow in the forecast today, mainly along the favorable terrain of the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, and the Intermountain west. Snow will be possible in the highest elevations. Precipitations will wane over West of the divide Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure builds over the Intermountain West and Great Basin. Heavy rainfall is forecast to return to British Columbia and the higher terrain of northwest Washington on Wednesday as a strong system approaches the coast. A low pressure system lifting northeast through southern Canada will drag a cold front through much of the central U.S. over the next couple days. Prior to the frontal passage, temperatures across the central and eastern U.S. will be well above normal. Afternoon maximum temperatures may climb as high as 20 - 30 degrees above normal, particularly from the central Plains to the Ohio Valley. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along the boundary, spanning from the southern plains to the Great Lakes on Wednesday, then across the Northeast on Thursday. As a portion of the front slows over the Iowa/Missouri/Kansas, heavy rainfall may focus along the boundary Wednesday evening into Thursday. Periods of heavy rainfall may increase the risk for flash flooding across the Midwest. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
