Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 PM EST Mon Nov 07 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 08 2016 - 00Z Thu Nov 10 2016 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the southern Plains and central Gulf Coast through tonight... ...Fine and cool weather in the East will give way to some rain later this week... ...A warming trend will spread from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains... A generally tranquil fall weather pattern continues to persist across the U.S. The eastern U.S. has been enjoying cool mornings and fine afternoons under a large high pressure system. The high will weaken on Tuesday as a cold front moves eastward across the mid-section of the country. Rain ahead of the front will move across the Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic as well as New England on Wednesday. As the front moves off the East Coast Wednesday night, a low pressure system is forecast to form off Long Island, New York. Winds could become strong and gusty from the mid-Atlantic coast up into the New England coast Wednesday night as this low continues to deepen. A board return flow from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the aforementioned cold front will promote heavy showers and thunderstorms across the Deep South during the next couple of days. Rain could be heavy enough to lead to flash flooding in parts of the southern Plains and central Gulf Coast through tonight. Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure in the upper levels is forecast to build in the western U.S. This will prompt mild air to build in the northern Rockies and will spread eastward into the northern Plains towards the upper Midwest for the next couple of days.
