A cold front moving through the Upper Midwest/Midwest today will continue tracking through the Northeast, Ohio/Tennessee valley and the southern tier states Friday into Saturday. Light rain is forecast for portions of the Great Lakes and Northeast ahead of the front. Precipitation will linger in these areas in the wake of the front - possibly changing to a wintry mix as cold air ushers in over northern Michigan and the higher terrain of New York, New Hampshire and Maine. High pressure will build over the northern High Plains and Upper Midwest/Midwest by late tonight/early Friday morning. Warmer than seasonal average temperatures are forecast for much of the Upper Midwest - with several locations potentially reaching 15 to 25 degrees above climatology. An upper-level low will be quasi-stationary through Saturday over Northwest Mexico and parts of Southwest/Southern Rockies. This will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over West-Central Texas that will retreat to the Lower Rio Grande Valley and the southern most tip of Texas by late tonight, with a few lingering into Friday evening. Scattered to widespread rain is forecast for much of the Pacific Northwest as a front over the Eastern Pacific will approaches the coast on Friday. Precipitation will spread to eastern Washington, Oregon and the Northern Rockies as the front pushes further inland Friday evening into Saturday.
