Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 255 PM EST Wed Nov 16 2016 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 17 2016 - 00Z Sat Nov 19 2016 ...Rain expected to continue tonight for northern New England... ...Low pressure system to bring the potential for heavy snow from the Rockies to the Upper Midwest... ...Warm temperatures expected to migrate from the central U.S. to the Great Lakes and Ohio valley... Rain showers in association with the departing low pressure system will linger into the evening hours. Drier conditions can be expected for New England into Thursday morning as the low pressure system moves further offshore. A low pressure system, moving ahead of a deepening upper-level trough, has brought rain and snow to portions of the Great Basin and Rockies this afternoon. Snow is expected to become more widespread across the central Rockies this evening as snow levels lower across the region. Heavy snow and gusty winds will be possible by Thursday for the central/northern Plains and Friday for the Plains/Midwest/Upper Midwest. The southern flank of this front will move through the southern Plains and lower Mississippi valley and will likely produce showers and thunderstorms Thursday night through Friday. Warm temperatures will persist ahead of the western/central U.S. low pressure system as high pressure at the mid and upper-levels remains overhead. The warm temperatures will migrate eastward into the Great Lakes and Ohio valley on Thursday as colder air begins to move into the central and northern plains behind the incoming cold front.
