Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 240 PM EST Mon Nov 21 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 22 2016 - 00Z Thu Nov 24 2016 ...Blustery weather continues across the northeast U.S... ...More rain snow for the western states and the central U.S... Strong northwesterly winds on the backside of the departing low will continue to usher in cold temperatures and lake effect snow from upstate New York and east - with several inches of accumulation possible. Temperatures will begin to moderate by midweek across the Northeast. Numerous showers and mountain snow can expected through Tuesday as with a Pacific storm system continues to advance through the western states. The heaviest precipitation should be from northern Arizona to western Colorado, with some of the mountainous areas of Colorado getting in excess of 6 inches of snow. Additional rain and mountain snow is in the forecast for the Pacific Northwest for Tuesday into Wednesday as another front approaches. A surface low is forecast to develop in the lee of the Rockies and track across the central Plains and towards the Ohio Valley by Wednesday afternoon. This system will generate widespread showers and storms along and ahead of the system. Conditions will be favorable for some strong, maybe even severe thunderstorms across the southern and central Plains. Additionally, will ample Gulf moisture feeding into the system, locally heavy rain will also be possible - which will increase the risk for flash flooding. Farther to the north across the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, wintry weather is likely with mixed precipitation near the transition zone.
