Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 246 AM EST Wed Nov 30 2016 Valid 12Z Wed Nov 30 2016 - 12Z Fri Dec 02 2016 ...Widespread rain expected from the lower Mississippi valley to the Northeast, with snow expected for northern Maine... ...Areas of snow and valley rain, along with below average temperatures expected for much of the western U.S... The low pressure system that brought widespread snow to portions of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest will continue to weaken as it tracks eastward. Precipitation will linger into the afternoon today. The cold front associated with this low feature extends southward through the Appalachians, Tennessee valley and the Gulf states. Widespread rain and even some thunderstorms are expected from the lower Mississippi valley to the Northeast today. A few locations across the lower Mississippi and Tennessee valley may have periods of heavy rainfall. Snow is expected to develop today across northern Maine as the precipitation spreads into colder air already in place; which, may be heavy at times tonight into Thursday. Out west, rain and mountain snow will spread inland today as a cold front moves onshore. The precipitation is forecast to reach the Intermountain West by this evening, with snow expected at all but the lowest valley elevations. Maximum temperatures across the West will be generally be below average through Thursday - with highs expected to be 5 to 15 degrees below average.
