Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 253 PM EST Sat Dec 03 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Dec 04 2016 - 00Z Tue Dec 06 2016 ...Heavy rain and flash flooding possible from the western Gulf Coast to portions of the Southeast... ...Heavy snow possible Sunday into Monday for portions of the northern Intermountain West and northern Rockies... A frontal boundary along the western and central Gulf Coast along with an anomalous upper-level low over northern Mexico will interact to generate widespread rain and thunderstorms through Monday from much of Texas east to the southeastern states. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding are possible tonight and Sunday across much of this area. Along the northern periphery of this system, generally light snow, or a mix of rain and snow is possible from across portions of the Midwest and Great Lakes tonight and Sunday. The northwestern U.S. will remain unsettled through the short range, with a series of frontal systems affecting the region. The first cold front will move onshore tonight, spreading rain and mountain snow inland. This system will bring the potential for heavy snow to portions of the northern Intermountain West and northern Rockies Sunday into Sunday night. Colder temperatures will also move into the interior northwestern U.S. in association with this system, with high temperatures Monday expected to be 10 to 20 degrees below average. This system will move into the northern Plains on Monday, bringing areas of snow to that region. Also by Sunday night and Monday, a second frontal system will approach the Pacific Northwest, spreading another round of rain and snow onshore.
