Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 315 PM EST Tue Dec 20 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Dec 21 2016 - 00Z Fri Dec 23 2016 ...Snow possible from parts of the Northern Plains to Northern New England... A front extending from the Northern High Plains/Northern Rockies to parts of the Great Basin/Northern California will move quickly to the Lower Great Lakes to the Central/Southern Appalachians/Central Gulf Coast by Thursday. The system will produce rain and higher elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest with snow over the Norther Rockies/Northern Intermountain Region on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. As the storm moves onto the Plains, snow will develop over the Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday morning advancing to parts of the Northeast by Thursday morning. Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Great Lakes will produce snow over parts of the Upper Great Lakes on Tuesday evening ending Wednesday morning. The energy will also develop scattered snow over parts of the Northeast early Wednesday morning into Wednesday evening. In addition, another area of upper-level energy over Northwestern Mexico will move into parts of the Southwest to the Southern High Plains Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Rain will develop over parts of Southern California/Southwest moving northeastward into the Southern Rockies producing snow at the higher elevations and a wintry mix over parts of New Mexico. Elsewhere, a lingering front over Southern Florida will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southeast portions of Florida through Thursday.
