Much of the Great Basin, Intermountain West, Northern Plains and the Upper Midwest will be impacted by a strong winter storm as it tracks north and east from the Great Basin to the Upper Mississippi Valley. Widespread snow is expected from Utah/Wyoming/Montana eastward into Dakotas; the precipitation will likely transition to freezing rain from southeast South Dakota to Wisconsin. Numerous winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories are in effect along and adjacent of the Rockies. Blizzard warnings blanket much of North and South Dakota. Ice storm warnings and freezing rain advisories span from the eastern Dakotas to northern Wisconsin. Holiday travel will likely be poor across the much of the northern-tier states, possibly significantly degraded across the Dakotas and Upper Midwest. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of Eastern Texas and the Lower Mississippi Valley this evening. Rain is forecast for portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley/Tennessee Valley/Central Appalachians tonight spreading to the Great Lakes area by Monday morning. Dense fog is expected across portions of the Central Plains, Middle Mississippi Valley, Gulf Coast/South and the Mid-Atlantic.
