A front will settle across the interior Gulf Coast State to the Southeast Coast on New Year's Day through Monday. Moisture from the Western Gulf of Mexico will overrun the boundary producing showers and thunderstorms along the Central and Eastern Gulf Coast/Southeast that will expand into parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic overnight Sunday and continuing into Monday evening. Rain will also develop over parts of the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys into parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic that will expand into parts of the Lower Great Lakes/Northern Mid-Atlantic by Monday morning into Monday evening. In addition, low pressure over Northern New England will move to Eastern Coast of Canada by Monday morning. The system will aid in producing snow over parts of the Central/Northern Appalachians into the Northeast with rain along the Northeast Coast that will end Sunday afternoon into evening. Additionally, upper-level energy over the Upper Great Lakes will produce snow over parts of the area through Sunday afternoon and evening, too. Meanwhile, a strong upper-level low will develop over the Pacific Northwest while a portion of the upper-level energy will move eastward to the Northern Plains by Monday evening. The storm will produce rain over parts of Coastal Oregon and snow over Washington State and interior/eastern portions of Oregon into parts of the Northern Rockies on Sunday. The snow will expand into parts of the Northern Plains, Great Basin, and Northern California nearing the coast of Oregon and Northern California by evening on New Year's Day. The snow will spread eastward into parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and Central Rockies by Monday morning. Late overnight Sunday, an area of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Central Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley. The snow will, again, expand into parts of the Upper Great Lakes by Monday evening. Rain will also mover into parts of Central California and snow into the Sierras overnight Sunday into Monday evening. Furthermore, rain will develop over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley into the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley on Monday afternoon into evening. Another area of upper-level energy over Southern California/Northwestern Mexico will move eastward to the Lower Mississippi Valley/Tennessee Valley by Monday evening. The system will produce rain over parts of Southern California into the Southwest with snow over the higher elevations of the Southwest that will move into parts of the Southern Rockies by Sunday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Southern High Plains by Sunday evening, too.. The precipitation ends over Southern California by Sunday evening. Overnight Sunday, showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Southern Plains. The showers and thunderstorms will move into the Lower Mississippi Valley/Tennessee Valley Monday afternoon into evening.
