Scattered to widespread rain is forecast for much of the Deep South, Southeast, Tennessee valley and the Mid-Atlantic this weekend as a series of upper-level disturbances move overhead. A warm front is expected to develop today across the over the Gulf states and will be a focus for numerous showers and thunderstorms through overnight hours. In addition, a low pressure system will spin up over the Southern Plains - spreading showers and thunderstorms with it as it as it tracks eastward by Sunday morning. Periods of intense rainfall maybe possible across the South and may increase the risk for flash flooding. WPC has issued a slight risk of excessive rainfall today for the western Gulf Coast/Lower Mississippi valley and across the Southeast on Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted much of the Deep South and Southeast as having a slight to enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms today- shifting to the Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday. A series of Pacific storms are forecast to move onshore; which will keep a vast majority of the western states in a wet regime. Coastal rain and mountain snow will increase across the region by this evening as a storm system approaches the West Coast. Rain and mountain snow will spread along nearly the entire West Coast tonight and into Sunday. Snow will also spread expand into much of the interior West on Sunday. Heavy snow will be possible in association with this system once again across the mountains of California, as well as across portions of the Great Basin through Sunday. Heavy rain is also expected at lower elevations of California. Light precipitation will be possible this weekend across the northern-tier states as a slow-moving upper-level disturbance remains in the vicinity. A mix of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain is possible today for portions of the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes and may linger into Sunday.
