Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 PM EST Sat Feb 25 2017 Valid 00Z Sun Feb 26 2017 - 00Z Tue Feb 28 2017 ...Storm system to affect the far eastern U.S. and New England tonight... ...Snow expected for the Great Lakes through Sunday... ...More precipitation expected for the Pacific Northwest and West Coast to finish out the weekend... A strong surface low pressure system will continue to lift northeast through eastern Canada this evening and overnight, with an associated cold front expected to sweep across and surface cold front will continue to quickly move eastward across the Atlantic Seaboard and much of New England. This will result in showers and thunderstorms along the Atlantic coast through this evening, lingering into the overnight hours in New England. The storm prediction center has much of this area in slight risk for this afternoon, with storms having the potential to produce damaging winds and hail. Please refer to the storm prediction website for more information. In the wake of the cold front, most locations across the eastern half of the U.S. are seeing the return of more seasonable temperatures by February standards. Expect these cooler temperatures to remain in place for the next few days, along with high pressure which will keep conditions mostly clear and dry into Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, return flow behind the exiting high pressure, coupled with an incoming low pressure system, will advect enough moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to generate scattered showers and thunderstorms from eastern Texas to lower Mississippi Valley. Rain and storms will then spread from the Lower Mississippi Valley across much of the Southeast and Tennessee Valley. Another low pressure system passing near the Upper Great Lakes will bring snow across the region tonight through Sunday. Finally, yet another system is poised to impact the Pacific Northwest late this weekend, continuing into the first part of the workweek. This system will bring a wintry mix of rain and snow to much of the Pacific Northwest Coast, with light to moderate snow expected inland, spreading eastward across the Rocky Mountains through Monday. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for many locations along the Pacific Northwest coast for potential snowfall impacts. Wix Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
