Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms will continue over portions of the Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic and the Lower Great lakes through Saturday morning as a strong area of low pressure and its associated surface fronts pushes exits the Mid-Atlantic Seaboard. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined portions of northeast North Carolina to southern Del-Mar-VA in a slight risk, with the main threats being damaging winds and large hail. Further north, a mix of freezing rain and snow is forecast for much of the Northeast through Saturday midday before transitioning to all snow. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for a large portion of the northeast. Another low pressure system will move out into the Southern/Central Plains bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms south-central U.S. this weekend. Rain and higher elevation snow will remain in place across much of the Rockies and western portions of the Northern and Central Plains through Saturday. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for portions of the Northern and Central Rockies for snow potential. Severe thunderstorms will be possible for central portions of Texas on Saturday. The threat area shifts to eastern Texas/western Gulf on Sunday -- increasing to an enhanced risk for severe weather. This same area will likely have periods of heavy rainfall intensity which may lead to flash flooding across the Gulf states. Coastal rain and favored elevation snow will be possible for the Pacific Northwest as an approaching cold front weakens upon reaching the West Coast.
