Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 217 AM EDT Fri May 5 2017 Valid 12Z Fri May 5 2017 - 12Z Sun May 7 2017 ...Low pressure systems across both the eastern and western U.S. through the weekend... The area of low pressure currently over the Ohio Valley is forecast to continue lifting towards the northeast through Friday. Widespread rain along with a few embedded thunderstorms will effect the Mid-Atlantic region and extending northward into New England to close out the week. The heaviest rainfall amounts are likely across eastern New England through Saturday, where 2 to locally 4 inches of rainfall is possible. After this storm exits the region, a secondary surge of cooler temperatures is expected by Saturday night and will result in temperatures below average for early May from the Great Lakes to the East Coast. Some lingering showers are also likely after the cold front moves through the region. Across the western U.S., a strong Pacific cold front moving inland in association with a developing upper level low will result in unsettled conditions from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies, with snow for the highest mountains behind the front. Windy conditions are expected to develop across the Intermountain West as the surface low develops further along the front. Temperatures will be above average across much of the western U.S. and adjacent High Plains ahead of the front. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
