Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EDT Sun May 07 2017 Valid 12Z Sun May 07 2017 - 12Z Tue May 09 2017 ...Low pressure systems will bring showers and thunderstorms to parts of the Northeast and the Western U.S. early this week... ...Temperatures across the Central states are expected be well above normal while temperatures across the Southwest could be well below normal... The same large storm system which brought heavy rainfall the past couple of days to the Mid-Atlantic and New England will continue to wobble over the Northeast the next couple of days. Although the heaviest rainfall has moved offshore now, expect mainly scattered to light showers to persist across portions of the Northeast, lower Great Lakes, and Appalachians into the middle of the week. With northeasterly flow across the region, temperatures will be below average, especially across the interior Northeast where light snowfall may be possible by Monday. A second deep upper level low over the Southwest will bring light to moderate, and locally heavy, rainfall to portions of southern California and the Four Corners states through Tuesday. In addition, high temperatures across the Southwest could be as much as 15 to 25 degrees below average Sunday and Monday. To the north of here, a frontal system moving through the Rockies overnight will continue to bring showers and thunderstorms to much of the Intermountain West today, with snowfall possible in the highest elevations. The front pushes eastward on Monday, which will spread showers and thunderstorms into the Northern Plains, and eventually the middle Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley by Tuesday. Strong upper level ridging in between the Eastern and Western U.S. storm systems will allow for temperatures as much as 10 to 20 degrees above normal across the Plains states on Sunday and Monday will near record values possible especially across the Northern Plains on Sunday.
