Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 350 AM EDT Thu May 11 2017 Valid 12Z Thu May 11 2017 - 12Z Sat May 13 2017 ...Rain and thunderstorms from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic, and also for the Pacific Northwest... The weather pattern through the end of the week will be a stormy one from the Plains eastward to the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic region. A slow moving frontal boundary coupled with a potent shortwave disturbance aloft and moisture convergence in the low levels will fuel the development of numerous showers and storms. Expect the greatest rainfall amounts across Missouri and Arkansas, and also for parts of West Virginia. Some instances of flash flooding will be possible across areas that get persistent heavy rainfall. Severe weather will be possible from Texas to North Carolina over the next two days with moisture returning northward from the Gulf of Mexico, and the Storm Prediction Center has additional details on that. With a strong Pacific front moving inland across the northwestern U.S. by the end of the week, moderate to heavy rain is forecast for western Washington and Oregon, with showers across the northern Rockies. Much cooler weather will settle in behind the front and lead to temperatures below average for this time of year. Snow is likely for the highest elevations. Across the eastern U.S., temperatures are also expected to be below average through the end of the week compared to early May standards from the Great Lakes to the Northeast north of the frontal boundary. It will continue to be mostly sunny and hot for Florida and most of the southeast coast. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
