A deep upper low will move across the eastern U.S. bringing rain and cooler temperatures. Showers and thunderstorms will focus along and near a slow moving surface front stretching from the central plains to Mid Atlantic. Locally heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding across parts of the lower Mississippi Valley and central Appalachains today. The threat of flash flooding will remain across the central Appalachains tomorrow. In the west, a frontal boundary coming ashore will bring active weather to much of the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. Onshore flow will bring pacific moisture inland with widespread showers and even some thunderstorms possible across the region. Cooler air moving in aloft behind the front will result in the chance for some snowfall across the higher elevations. Temperatures will soar ahead of the frontal boundary moving into the west. High temperatures across the Great Basin to northern Rockies could be as much as 15 degrees above normal this afternoon. The heat will spread to the northern Plains tomorrow. Across the east, the general trend will be toward cooler temperatures with cloud cover and precipitation keeping temperatures down.
