Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Tue May 23 2017 Valid 00Z Wed May 24 2017 - 00Z Fri May 26 2017 ...Severe weather is possible Wednesday across portions of the Southeast... ...Heavy rainfall expected the next couple of days across portions of the Appalachians as well as the Southeast... ...Below normal temps will persist across the Eastern U.S. this week... An upper level system moving through the Ohio Valley, the Southeast, and lifting into the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast by Thursday will spread showers and thunderstorms across these regions Wednesday and Thursday. The heaviest rainfall is expected across Florida along a cold front pushing southward through the state. There is also a slight risk for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday across portions of the Southeast, as advertised by the Storm Prediction Center. Expect another area of organized rainfall across the Appalachians where favorable upslope flow along the terrain may produce heavier rainfall, with localized flash flooding possible. Underneath of this upper level trough, expect temperatures to remain below normal across the Eastern U.S., with afternoon values as much as 10 to 20 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, a front will usher in cooler air across the Northwest on Wednesday with any precipitation confined to the higher elevations of the Pacific Northwest. By Wednesday afternoon, as the boundary pushes into the Rockies and the Great Basin, showers and thunderstorms may develop along the boundary from the Northern Plains to the Great Basin/Intermountain West. Showers and higher elevation snow are also possible on Thursday behind the front across portions of the northern and central Rockies.
