Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 PM EDT Mon May 29 2017 Valid 00Z Tue May 30 2017 - 00Z Thu Jun 01 2017 ...Severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain possible for portions of the Southeast and Gulf Coast states... ...Continued above average temperatures expected for the Interior Pacific Northwest and Great Basin... A persistent upper-level trough over the great lakes region will allow multiple surface fronts to pass through the central and eastern states. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop from southern Texas, across the Gulf states and into the Southeast along a mostly stalled boundary through at least midweek. Embedded areas of higher rainfall, especially for the Gulf states, may increase the threat for flash flooding. Some of the thunderstorms that initiate across the Southeast will have potential to turn severe. Please refer to products issued by the Storm Prediction Center for further details on the severe weather threat. Widespread showers and a few thunderstorms are forecast across the Northeast and parts of the Mid-Atlantic region as the northern portion of the cold front passes through. By late Tuesday, another cold front will pass the central plains and mid-Mississippi valley, producing additional scattered showers and thunderstorms. High pressure aloft will move eastward over the next couple of days, shifting from the West Coast to the Intermountain West/Rockies. Above normal temperatures, averaging 10 to 20 degrees warmer, are expected for portions of the Interior Northwest on Tuesday-- reaching the Rockies by Wednesday. Cooler temperatures will return to coastal areas once the ridge axis shifts eastward. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
