Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 AM EDT Fri Jun 02 2017 Valid 12Z Fri Jun 02 2017 - 12Z Sun Jun 04 2017 ...Scattered thunderstorms will accompany a cold front moving from west to east across the northern tier states... ...Scattered thunderstorms will remain likely across the Deep South as we head into the weekend... It appears that the weather will remain on the quiet side across the U.S. as no significant threat of excessive rainfall and severe thunderstorms are expected into the weekend. First of all, an upper-level low will move steadily eastward across northern New England during the next couple of days. This will bring cooler than normal temperatures into the Northeast with partly sunny skies although some showers could develop as a weak cold front passes through. Meanwhile, typical summer heat and humidity will continue across the Deep South with a good chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. The thunderstorm activities over Texas will be supported by an upper-level shortwave trough drifting eastward across the Lone Star State through the weekend. Some of the thunderstorms could produce locally heavy rainfall but excessive rain over a large area is not expected. Farther north, a frontal system is forecast to move steadily eastward across the northern Plains today, reaching the upper Midwest on Saturday, and over the Great Lakes on Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany the frontal system along with a brief warm up. This will be followed by clearing skies and cooler conditions. Over the Pacific Northwest, the next upper-level trough and associated cold front will approach the region during the weekend. Showers and afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected to develop generally in the interior sections on Saturday and is expected to continue into Sunday.
