Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 405 AM EDT Mon Jun 05 2017 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 05 2017 - 12Z Wed Jun 07 2017 ...A complex low pressure system is forecast to bring cool and unsettled weather into much of the eastern U.S. during the next few days... ...A cold front could bring strong thunderstorms from the northern Rockies into the northern High Plains today... A complex evolution of the synoptic pattern is forecast over the eastern U.S. for the next few days as an old occluded system over the Great Lakes is re-energized by an anomalous upper low dropping southward from James Bay. This unusual evolution will result in unsettled weather to linger over the eastern U.S. for the next few days along with cool conditions, especially for New England. Across the mid-Atlantic, showers and thunderstorms will be most active today as a low pressure center begins to form along a frontal boundary. The low is forecast to move rapidly out to sea on Tuesday, ending the rain by Tuesday morning. But lingering instability should result in scattered showers and thunderstorms to redevelop in the afternoon. Similar conditions can be expected to continue into Wednesday. Farther to the south, an upper-level trough has provided a triggering mechanism for scattered showers and thunderstorms for the past few days across the Deep South. Southerly flow ahead of the upper trough will begin to bring tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into the Southeast including Florida for the next few days. An elongated low pressure system is forecast to form in the northern Gulf and reach the Florida Panhandle by Wednesday morning. Widespread showers and thunderstorms can be expected to continue into Wednesday from across the Deep South into the Southeast and down the Florida Peninsula. Out West, a strong cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms across the northern Rockies and into the northern Plains today. Some of the thunderstorms could become quite strong. The front will continue to move steadily eastward across the northern and central Plains on Tuesday, bringing more showers and thunderstorms. By Wednesday, thunderstorms should reach the southern High Plains. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
