Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 319 PM EDT Thu Jun 08 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 09 2017 - 00Z Sun Jun 11 2017 ...Significant rainfall moving into the West Coast... ...Much above normal temperatures and severe weather potential for parts of the northern Plains... ...Heavy rainfall possible with lingering frontal boundary across Florida... A significant pattern change is coming across much of the nation over the next few days. A strong ridge will build over the central U.S. allowing high temperatures to soar. Areas from the Great Basin to northern Rockies will see high temperatures as much as 10 to 20 degrees above normal this afternoon. The heat will spread eastward across the central and northern Plains for Friday and into the upper Mississippi Valley for Saturday. High temperatures will near 100 degrees in some places. Relief from the heat will come quickly across the west as a cold front will push across the region on Friday and Saturday with showers and thunderstorms possible. Some thunderstorms could be severe today across parts of Montana. Sustained onshore flow behind the front will bring a more prolonged period of showers and cooler temperatures to western portions of the Pacific Northwest. The cold front will reach the northern Plains tomorrow. Oppressive heat and humidity ahead of the front could fuel severe thunderstorms across North Dakota and into northwestern Minnesota. A cold front pushing across southern Florida will stall and then lift northward as a warm front by Saturday. A pool of deep tropical moisture south of the front will fuel scattered showers and thunderstorms across south Florida today and tomorrow. With the front lifting northward on Saturday coverage of showers and thunderstorms should increase. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
