The Pacific Northwest will be transitioning to a cooler, wet pattern this weekend as a swath of very moist air streams in with a cold front moving across the West. Much of Oregon will see amounts around 1 inch, with upwards of 3 inches in the cascades by the end of the weekend. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will likely develop ahead of the advancing front today. Some thunderstorms could be severe. The threat for strong to severe storms will shift to portions of North Dakota and Minnesota on Saturday. Heavy rainfall will also be possible across the Upper Midwest. A strong ridge will build over the central U.S. allowing high temperatures to climb well above normal this weekend. for today, much of the Great basin and Northern Rockies will be around 10 to 20 degrees above normal this afternoon. The heat will spread eastward from the Central and Northern Plains the upper Mississippi Valley by Saturday as the ridge shifts across the central U.S. many locations are forecast to have afternoon highs in the 90s to low 100s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will fire up over the Southeast over the next few days as a cold front stalls over Florida. Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage along the Gulf Coast this weekend as the stalled boundary lifts northward as a warm front.
