Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 335 AM EDT Sat Jun 10 2017 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 10 2017 - 12Z Mon Jun 12 2017 ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the Upper Midwest on Sunday... ...Rain and high elevation snow expected for portions of the Northwest and northern Rockies... ...Well above average temperatures spreading east from the plains and Midwest to the Northeast through the weekend... Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the portions of the High Plains and Upper Midwest this weekend as a low pressure system tracks to the east. The precipitation will persist over the Upper Midwest and portions of the Great Lakes as a portion of front stalls. Strong to severe thunderstorms, along with periods of heavy rain, will be possible this weekend. Please refer to the SPC convective outlooks for additional information on the threat for severe weather. Central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin will likely have the highest rainfall amounts with this system, with totals averaging 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts of 3.5+ inches. An anomalous upper-level trough/low will dig southward along the West Coast over the next few days. Onshore flow will spread scattered to numerous showers along the Pacific Northwest coast with lower elevation rain and higher-elevation snow spreading inland over the Great Basin and Intermountain West. Locally heavy rain will be possible. The upper-level ridge will expand eastward over a much of the central and eastern states. A majority of these locations will observe maximum temperatures above normal, averaging 90s to low 100s across the Southern/Central Plains to the Upper Midwest. The heat will spread into the East by Monday, allowing temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions to reach the 90s.
