Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 327 PM EDT Mon Jun 26 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Jun 27 2017 - 00Z Thu Jun 29 2017 ...The western U.S. should finally get a break in the heat, while temperatures across the Eastern U.S. should be below normal this week... ...Heavy rain and severe weather possible Tuesday and Wednesday from the northern/central Plains to the Upper Midwest... Showers and thunderstorms rounding the base of an upper level trough will keep conditions unsettled early in the week along the Southeast and Gulf Coasts, Florida, and back into the central Plains. Locally heavy rainfall may be possible. To the north of this, conditions should be mostly dry and cooler than average across much of the Eastern U.S.. Out west, the oppressive and record breaking heat should finally subside this week as a cold front pushes eastward through the Pacific Northwest. This may also allow for a few pop-up showers or storms along the favored terrain as well. As this cold front makes its way eastward however, moisture will get pulled north== from the Gulf of Mexico allowing for several rounds of rain and thunderstorms along and ahead of the boundary. Heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday across portions of the northern and central Plains, pushing eastward into the Upper Midwest by Wednesday. Both WPC and SPC have highlighted slight risks for excessive rainfall and severe weather across portions of these areas. See the products issued by WPC and SPC for further details.
