Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 PM EDT Tue Jun 27 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Jun 28 2017 - 00Z Fri Jun 30 2017 ...Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain possible from the Central and Northern plains to the Midwest... A low pressure system currently making its way through the High Plains is expected to move into the Plains Tuesday night and into the Upper Midwest by Wednesday. As this low and its associated fronts track eastward, showers and thunderstorms will move with it, overspreading the Northern and Central Plains Tuesday night and into the Upper Midwest by Wednesday morning. Severe weather is forecast for portions of the Plains Tuesday night through Thursday, portions of the Middle and Upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday and Thursday, and into the Ohio Valley on Thursday. Please refer to products issued by the Storm Prediction Center for further details on the severe weather threat. Thunderstorms may produce locally heavy rainfall tonight, but a more widespread flash flooding threat is present for parts of the Middle and Upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday and Thursday. Elsewhere, as a stationary front and a surface trough are expected to linger along the Gulf Coast through the next couple of days, scattered thunderstorms will occur throughout the Gulf Coast through the next few days, and into the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast by Thursday. Additionally, as an upper-level trough moves through the Northeast, showers and thunderstorms are possible in that area. Temperature-wise, below average temperatures are forecast for much of the northern and eastern parts of the U.S. The Southern Plains and the Southwest will continue to see above average temperatures. However, in the Southwest, temperatures will not be quite as extreme as they have been in the previous several days. The Pacific Northwest and California are expected to be warmer than average beginning on Thursday. Tate Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
