Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 PM EDT Thu Jun 29 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 30 2017 - 00Z Sun Jul 02 2017 ...Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain possible for portions of the Plains and Mississippi Valley... ...Warmer than average temperatures forecast across the West Coast states... A frontal boundary stretching through the Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley will help cause rain and thunderstorms over the next couple of days. Through Friday morning, severe storms and heavy rain that could produce flash flooding are possible for the Central Plains, Middle Mississippi Valley, and into the Ohio Valley. As the front tracks slowly southeastward, the risk of severe thunderstorms will move into the Oklahoma/Arkansas/Missouri area on Friday. Additionally, strong storms are possible for the Lower Great Lakes and portions of the Northeast on Friday. Please refer to the Storm Prediction Center for information on the severe weather threat. Numerous thunderstorms are also likely along the Gulf Coast and into the Southeast as there is plenty of available moisture and instability. Through Friday morning, flash flooding is possible along the Central Gulf Coast. The western U.S. will remain generally dry over the next couple of days while temperatures rise. The Northwest in particular will be warm, with temperatures around 10 to 15 degrees above average on Friday. The warmth will spread eastward on Saturday. Temperatures behind the front will be somewhat cooler than average, with the Central High Plains being the coolest, with temperatures around 15 degrees below average on Friday.
