Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 PM EDT Sun Jul 02 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Jul 03 2017 - 00Z Wed Jul 05 2017 ...Strong to severe thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding today in the southern Plains... A broad upper-level trough will slowly move eastward over Canada and the Northeast U.S. over the next few days... resulting in a cold front pushing offshore into the Atlantic with the trailing end of the front stalling over much of the central and north-central portions of the CONUS. The heat and humidity south of the front will continue to promote scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Deep South down into Florida, as well as, over the Central Plains through mid-week. Conditions favorable for strong to severe thunderstorm development, along with higher rainfall amounts, will be focused over the Central Plains. Please refer to SPC for additional details on the threat for severe weather. Much of the West will be dry over the next few days, which will keep the fire danger high over the Desert Southwest. An approaching Pacific front will dissipate upon reaching the West Coast today. A few showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the interior mountains, with somewhat more numerous over the Central to Southern Rockies during the afternoon and early evening hours.
