Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 415 PM EDT Sun Jul 09 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Jul 10 2017 - 00Z Wed Jul 12 2017 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Upper Midwest... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Middle/Upper Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley... Showers and a few thunderstorms will linger across portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast over the next couple of days as a cold front slowly pushes offshore into the Atlantic Ocean. Moisture and weak upper-level energy tracking across the West will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Great Basin into Central/Southern Rockies through Monday. Otherwise, much of the West/Southwest will continue to be rather hot and dry. A vast area spanning from California to Utah has heat advisories, excessive heat warnings and red flag warnings in effect. Many locations will have afternoon highs ranging from the upper 90s to 110s. A Pacific cold front will push inland today and will pass through the interior Northwest and Intermountain region, linking up with a boundary over the Northern High Plains by late tonight/early Monday morning. During this time, showers and thunderstorms will develop across the northern High Plains and will spread eastward into the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes region by Tuesday. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a portion of the Upper Mississippi Valley today as having a slight risk for severe storms, as well as, most of Montana and northern Wyoming on Monday. Additionally, WPC has identified a portion of the Upper Mississippi Valley today as having the potential for excessive rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding.
