Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 AM EDT Sat Jul 29 2017 Valid 12Z Sat Jul 29 2017 - 12Z Mon Jul 31 2017 ...Improving weather for the East Coast with monsoonal showers and storms for the Four-Corners region... A fall-like low pressure system near the Mid-Atlantic coast Saturday morning will continue moving offshore with rain coverage decreasing through the day. Some lingering showers are likely on Saturday but nothing to the extend of what happened on Friday with numerous instances of flooding. A strong cold front behind the storm will usher in a high quality airmass by July standards across much of the eastern U.S. for the weekend and extending into Monday. Once the cloudiness and moisture move out, much lower humidity and pleasant temperatures will be commonplace from the Mid-Atlantic region to the Northeast. Some gusty winds are likely near the coast given the anomalous strength of the surface low. Monsoonal moisture streaming into the Desert Southwest, Four Corners and Central/Southern Rockies will keep scattered showers and thunderstorms possible through the weekend. As this moisture interacts with a weak frontal boundary over the western High Plains, the likelihood of higher rainfall will increase across eastern Colorado and northern New Mexico. A few instances of flash flooding may be possible, and the latest excessive rainfall outlook reflects this possibility. Initial thunderstorm activity should congregate across the local mountain ranges before migrating toward the valley floors and the central High Plains.
