Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 317 PM EDT Sat Jul 29 2017 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 30 2017 - 00Z Tue Aug 01 2017 ...Improving weather for the East Coast with monsoonal showers and storms for the Four-Corners region... Cooler air will continue to filter into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic as a cold front continues to slowly move further offshore the East Coast. Rain coverage has decreased through the afternoon today and a few areas of lingering showers will persist this through the overnight hours. Drier air will mix into the region as another low pressure system tracking across southern Canada this weekend. Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the Gulf Coast and the Southeast as the cold front sags southward through at least Monday. Embedded areas of heavy rainfall may be possible, which could lead to flash flooding. A slight risk is in effect for portions of northern Florida. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible across much of the Desert Southwest, Southern/Central Rockies and the adjacent High Plains as monsoonal moisture streams into the region. As this moisture interacts with a weak frontal boundary over the western High Plains, the likelihood of higher rainfall will increase across eastern Colorado and northern New Mexico. A few instances of flash flooding may be possible, and the latest excessive rainfall outlook reflects this possibility. Initial thunderstorm activity should congregate across the local mountain ranges before migrating toward the valley floors and the central High Plains.
