Heavy rain will continue over Florida Monday night as Tropical Storm Emily tracks across the peninsula. Even while the storm lifts out into the western Atlantic on Tuesday...the combination of abundant moisture and a lingering frontal boundary across the region should allow for additional days of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Sunshine State. A strong upper ridge expected to remain anchored over the western U.S. early this week will keep temperatures well above normal for locations from the West Coast to Rockies. Excessive heat warnings are in place across portions of northern California and into the Pacific Northwest where daytime temperatures could approach or exceed record highs on Tuesday. An exception to the heat in the West will be over the Four Corners states in areas where late afternoon convection could keep daytime temperatures near or below normal. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible across the Southern Rockies and adjacent Plains Monday and Tuesday as energy dropping down the eastern side of the Western U.S. ridge interacts with highly anomalous moisture in place over the south central U.S.. Farther north...shortwave energy dropping southeastward out of Canada late in the period should increase the chance for showers and thunderstorms across the northern Plains and upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday.
