Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 AM EDT Mon Aug 07 2017 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 07 2017 - 12Z Wed Aug 09 2017 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Mid-Atlantic region on Monday... ...Heavy rain possible from parts of the Southern Ohio Valley into the Southern Plains and parts of the Mid-Atlantic... ...Heavy rain possible over portions of the western Gulf states, Southern Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic/Northeast... A wave of low pressure will travel eastward along a front extending from the Mid-Atlantic region to the Southern Plains. The trailing edge of the frontal boundary will remain mostly stationary over the lower Mississippi valley and the Southern Plains through midweek. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will focus along this boundary, which will produce heavier rainfall amounts and increase for the risk for flooding. The leading edge of the front will cross the Appalachians and lift through the Mid-Atlantic states. Areas of higher rainfall are forecast to concentrate over eastern Tennessee and from the Chesapeake Bay vicinity to Cape Cod. These areas will also have an increase threat for flooding. Another cold front traveling south and east through southern Canada will make its way into the Northern High Plains, Upper Mississippi valley and the Upper Great Lakes by Tuesday. This feature will usher in showers and thunderstorms to the northern-tier states. Across the West, weak upper-level impulses extending from Northern California to the Central Rockies will produce showers and thunderstorms over the region through Tuesday.
