Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 428 AM EDT Mon Aug 14 2017 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 14 2017 - 12Z Wed Aug 16 2017 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Northern/Central Plains... ...Tropical Storm Gert is forecast to stay away from the Eastern Seaboard... A front extending from the Southern Mid-Atlantic to the Southeast and westward to the Southern Plains will slowly dissipate over the Southern Plains and the Gulf Coast States on Monday into Tuesday morning. The remainder of the boundary will remain over parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic through Tuesday evening dissipating by Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along the front from the Southern Mid-Atlantic/Southeast to the Southern High Plains through Tuesday evening. In addition, upper-level energy over the Central Appalachians will move eastward off the Mid-Atlantic Coast by Monday evening. The energy will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern Ohio Valley/Central Appalachians that will that will expand into the Northern Mid-Atlantic by Monday afternoon continuing over the area through Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, a front extending from Middle/Upper Mississippi Valley extending roughly westward to the Northern High Plains will move eastward and merge with a boundary moving southward out of Central Canada. The combined front will extend from the Great Lakes to the Middle Mississippi Valley westward to the Central Plains that will move eastward to the Lower Great Lakes across parts of the Ohio Valley westward to the Central Plains by Tuesday evening. The system will produce showers and thunderstorms from the Upper Great Lakes/Upper Mississippi Valley into parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley/Central Plains on Monday morning. The showers and thunderstorms will expand into the Great Lakes by Monday evening that will move eastward into parts of the Northeast overnight Monday that will extend westward to the Central Plains through Tuesday evening. Monsoonal moisture across the Southwest will lead to late afternoon/early evening thunderstorms across the region this evening and Monday. By Tuesday, limited moisture will lead to dry conditions and limited coverage of thunderstorms. Expect no extreme temperatures across the U.S. over the next few days; below average temperatures will especially be prominent over the western U.S. on Monday and Tuesday.
