Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 340 PM EDT Mon Aug 14 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 15 2017 - 00Z Thu Aug 17 2017 ...Heavy showers and thunderstorms over the north-central U.S. through the middle of the week... Multiple rounds of thunderstorms with heavy rain are likely over parts of the Dakotas, Nebraska, and extending eastward over Minnesota and Iowa over the next two days. A slow moving frontal boundary situated over the central U.S. will have multiple waves of low pressure developing along it, and these will provide a focus for enhanced convection. Some episodes of severe weather are also possible across the central and northern Plains. Tropical storm Gert is forecast to remain safely off the East Coast as it turns north and then northeast away from the U.S. mainland. The main effects from this storm will be increased wave action along the coast. Elsewhere across the southern and eastern U.S., scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely each day given a plethora of humidity available. Except for some scattered monsoonal showers and storms over the Four-Corners region, most of the western U.S. should remain dry through the middle of the week.
