Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 353 PM EDT Sun Aug 27 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 28 2017 - 00Z Wed Aug 30 2017 ...Catastrophic and Life-threatening flooding to continue for southeast Texas in association with Tropical Cyclone Harvey... Torrents of rain across unleashed on overnight and today across southeast Texas in association with Tropical Cyclone. There may be periods where the rainfall intensity lessens, or stops, but this system is not finished yet. Numerous locations have already received 2 feet of rain... a vast portion of the southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana will continue to be dumped on over the next few days. Forecast amounts of additional 10 to 20+ inches are forecast for this area Wednesday evening... putting the storm total accumulation near, or possibly exceeding 50 inches. This unprecedented amount would surpass any amount observed in modern records. The rainfall amounts that have occurred in Texas as of this afternoon has already passed those of Allison. Widespread major flooding in ongoing and the areal extent of devastation will only increase in the days to come. Showers and thunderstorms will develop from the Central Plains to the Great Lakes region in association with a frontal boundary passing through. Stormy weather currently near Florida is expected to move over the offshore waters of the southeast U.S. coast. A potential tropical disturbance and a stationary front offshore could result in some areas of moderate to heavy rainfall near the North and South Carolina coasts through Monday. A heat wave is setting up across California and Oregon as an upper level ridge builds into the region. Widespread 100+ degree temperatures are expected away from the immediate coast with overnight lows staying above normal. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are in effect.
