Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Thu Aug 31 2017 Valid 12Z Thu Aug 31 2017 - 12Z Sat Sep 02 2017 ...Heavy rain is still expected from tropical depression Harvey as it continues to weaken... Tropical depression Harvey is forecast to continue weakening as it treks northeastward along the Mississippi River and then to the Ohio Valley. However, it will still have plenty of heavy rain along and to the northwest of the center. Flash flooding remains a real possibility from Louisiana to Kentucky where several inches of additional rainfall is likely. The heaviest rainfall totals through Saturday morning are expected over western Tennessee and western Kentucky, where a moderate to high risk of excessive rainfall is being depicted. By Saturday, the system will become more sheared out and merge with a frontal boundary, and rainfall amounts are expected to decrease as the system moves farther east over the Ohio Valley and eventually towards the East Coast. Across the western U.S., very hot weather is expected for interior portions of California and extending northward into Oregon with highs well into the 90s and 100s for the lower elevations. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are currently in effect. Isolated to scattered afternoon/evening showers and storms are expected each afternoon across the Intermountain West. Some of these storms may aggravate ongoing fire weather concerns with gusty winds and lightning strikes. It will feel it autumn from the Upper Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic region to end the week as a pristine air mass from Canada settles southward over the region. The strongest cold front of the season thus far will result in widespread 60s for high temperatures, and even some 50s for parts of New England. Clouds will be more prevalent near the frontal boundary Friday and Saturday, and less cloud coverage farther north. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
