Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 332 PM EDT Thu Aug 31 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 01 2017 - 00Z Sun Sep 03 2017 ...Heavy rain is still expected from Tropical Depression Harvey... ...Record breaking heat will continue across the West Coast... Tropical Depression Harvey is forecast to weaken as it moves from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee/Ohio Valley by tomorrow. However, it will still bring heavy rainfall from Louisiana to Kentucky through Friday afternoon. Flash flooding will continue to be a real threat for the western Tennessee Valley and into the southern portions of the Ohio Valley through Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, rainfall totals will begin to lighten but still bring heavy precipitation to from the Ohio Valley. There is also a possibility for flash flooding across these regions on Friday albeit not a high risk. Light to moderate precipitation will also begin to increase across the Mid-Atlantic and the Carolinas. In addition to the flash flooding risk through Saturday morning, there will also be a chance for severe thunderstorms across the Southeast through Friday morning in addition to parts of the Carolinas and the eastern Tennessee Valley through Saturday morning. By Saturday, light precipitation will linger from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic with more moderate rainfall along the coastal Carolinas and Georgia. Please check the Storm Prediction Center for the latest outlooks on severe weather and WPC's excessive rainfall outlook for flash flooding potential. An upper level ridge will dominate over the western U.S. through the short term period. This will assist in the extension of the record breaking heat wave plaguing this half of the country. Excessive heat warnings, watches and heat advisories are in effect throughout the West Coast. Due to the dry and hot conditions, there have been multiple fires across the western U.S. and the threat will continue to exist during the short term period. Meanwhile, below normal temperatures will settle across the eastern U.S. but especially throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast by Friday after an impressive cold front sweeps across these areas. Expect these fall-like temperatures to persist into the holiday weekend. Reinhart Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
